Abstract

IDC Innovators are emerging vendors with revenue <$100 million that have demonstrated either a groundbreaking business model or an innovative new technology — or both. This IDC Innovators study profiles four notable vendors in the emerging smart kiosk market in Smart Cities: CIVIQ Smartscapes, Smart City Media, SmartLINK, and Soofa. Smart kiosks are specifically designed units, most of which include (interactive) display panels for local information, WiFi signaling, and emergency call services.

"As cities look for ways to provide ubiquitous public WiFi, market local business, generate new revenue opportunities, and provide quick access to services and information to the public, smart kiosks are emerging as a one-stop shop for these services," says Ruthbea Yesner, VP of IDC's Government Insights and Smart Cities practice. "The fact that they offer ad-based revenue opportunities makes them an attractive option to extend urban services to the hyperlocal level."
