Wearables and Third-Party Applications

By: Ramon T. LlamasResearch Director, Mobile Devices and AR/VR

On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Survey looks at the current state of third-party applications for wearables within the enterprise. This includes examining the level of adoption of third-party applications, who developed these applications, and what types of applications are being used the most. In addition, we provide breakdowns by company size.

"As wearables slowly gain salience within the enterprise, the importance of third-party applications will increase too," says Ramon T. Llamas, research director for IDC's Mobile Devices team. "Currently, usage of third-party applications is high (69.9%), but most of these applications were developed in-house (67.4%). This presents an opportunity to developers to introduce best-of-breed applications, especially those that focus on service and operations."
