This IDC Survey Spotlight discusses the results of an IDC survey of DBAs in North America conducted in 2019, seeking to know how they viewed the future of databases with respect to the public cloud. The overall goal was to determine DBA perceptions regarding cloud databases, including those having autonomic features. One question addressed the likelihood of the particular databases that they administered either moving to the public cloud or being replaced by a public cloud service. This survey spotlight shows their response.
"Enterprises are making a strategic choice to move to the cloud," said Carl Olofson, research vice president for Data Management Software research at IDC, "and that message is reinforced throughout the IT staff, including in database administration."
