Worldwide Messaging Security Market Shares, 2017: As Email Moves to the Cloud, Protection Follows

By: Robert Ayoub, Sean Pike, Pete FinalleSenior Research Analyst, Frank DicksonProgram Vice President, Cybersecurity Products

Abstract

This IDC study presents the 2017 market share for the messaging security market. The total messaging market increased by 10.9% from 2016 to 2017. This return to growth is largely due to renewed interest in moving to cloud email platforms and the large number of threats that utilize email as the preferred attack vector. Automation and awareness/training platforms are being developed to help minimize the burden that email security places on limited security staff resources. In addition, vendors are continuing to develop new ways to block phishing, spear phishing, and ransomware attacks.

"With email threats consuming a huge amount of security professionals' time and resources, the industry is experiencing renewed interest in highly efficient messaging security products," said Peter Finalle, senior analyst with IDC's Security Products group.
