On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Survey details results from IDC's 2018 Consumer Internet of Things Survey, which was fielded in June 2018. The survey asked respondents questions regarding consumer adoption of and attitudes toward a variety of smart home applications, consumer electronics devices, online entertainment services, security and privacy concerns, and smart assistants. This IDC Survey focuses on aspects of the survey related to home automation, monitoring, and control.

"Consumers are generally warming to the idea of a connected home, but the market is still in its early days," said Adam Wright, senior research analyst for IDC's Internet of Things: Consumer program. "Adoption of smart home solutions is being driven by promises of household cost savings, a reduction in energy consumption, and newfound conveniences. However, vendors still have much work to do to sell consumers on the overall value of smart home solutions and need to demonstrate the ways in which connected devices can work in concert to deliver richer experiences that are personalized, contextualized, and automated."
