This IDC study discusses the forecast for the U.S. wearable computing device market for the 2018–2022 period.
"The U.S. wearables market will retreat slightly in 2018, and we see this not as a sign that the market is in decline, but a market in transition," says Ramon T. Llamas, research director for IDC's Wearables team. "Increasingly, users want multiple uses out of their wearables, and that spells good news for smart wearables, but challenges basic wearables. However, we do not expect basic wearables to disappear completely, as other products — namely earworn devices and clothing — will drive the rebound in 2020. The net of all this is continued growth for the overall wearables market."
