Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation highlights our recently published experiential retail digital transformation (DX) use case taxonomy.

As an organizing principle for our digital transformation research, IDC has created a DX use case taxonomy for multiple industry segments.

The taxonomy follows a hierarchical structure that begins with the digital mission, the strategic priorities that support that mission, the programs that will be initiated to satisfy the priorities, and the funded projects or use cases that will be implemented under those programs. The taxonomy not only forms the basis for our market forecasts but also provides the framework for digital journey maps that will assist our clients in understanding the full scope of enterprise efforts.

Leslie Hand, vice president, IDC Retail Insights, reports, "This research was designed to speed retailers' digital transformation planning and development, and IDC data indicates that there is significant pressure on CIOs to digitally transform. More than 60% of retailers reported that the level of pressure on their CIO was a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1–5 in IDC's May 2018 Digital Transformation Executive Sentiment Survey. Furthermore, one of their greatest challenges is creating a strategic road map for digital investments."
