The Future of Technology Sourcing and Procurement: New Technologies Demand New Approaches

By: Aaron PolikaitisVice President of Research, Vendor Sourcing and Management

On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation provides extensive IDC survey data showing that over 50% of enterprises are failing to execute their digital transformation strategies. Enterprises are being challenged competitively by new digital strategies, and many are failing to transform to remain competitive in their markets. Furthermore, this data shows that both IT and lines of business (LOBs) are dissatisfied with technology sourcing and procurement in their enterprises. Procurement is widely perceived as a "black hole" where requests are made, and nothing results. Many enterprises struggle with bureaucratic procurement process roadblocks. Furthermore, IT and procurement executives do not see eye to eye on their enterprises' challenges. Yet the data also shows that effective technology sourcing and procurement are critical to achieving key transformational objectives. This document provides guidance to CIOs, procurement executives, and line-of-business executives for addressing these challenges.

"Recognizing key problem areas is a first step in taking corrective actions," says Aaron Polikaitis, vice president research, IDC Executive Programs. "And IDC survey data validates empirical evidence that has been widely discussed by industry experts over many years."
