Abstract
This IDC TechBrief considers an emerging kind of product suite, the enterprise data platform, and its potential impact on the enterprise, which provides a clearinghouse capability for defining, cataloging, accessing, and governing data in multiple data sources. It considers the costs, benefits, and risks both of adoption and nonadoption of this technology.
"This technology enables users and developers to find and leverage data where it lives, to combine it where it makes sense to do so, to understand the data, to record its meaning, and to generate more frequent and better analyses and, in some cases, data-driven operations based on the data in the platform," says Carl Olofson, research vice president for Data Management Software research at IDC.
