The Future of Technology Sourcing and Procurement — Part 1: Eliminate Siloed Sourcing to Support Digital Transformation

By: Aaron PolikaitisVice President of Research, Vendor Sourcing and Management

Abstract

This IDC Perspective offers a data-driven understanding of enterprises' most pervasive problem related to technology procurement: siloed sourcing impedes progress with digital transformation. Senior IT and LOB executives charged with supporting enterprise digital transformation are finding that the procurement organization is not adequately supporting transformation; in turn, procurement professionals say they are not included in strategy planning and lack the information and resources they need. As enterprise executives support digital transformation strategies and modernize their technology portfolios, IDC data shows technology sourcing and procurement organizations falling behind and, in many cases, disengaged.

"Procurement organizations have a choice of transforming themselves or watching other enterprise organizations assume the responsibility for sourcing technology necessary to support key business initiatives," says Aaron Polikaitis, vice president research, IDC IT Executive Programs.
