The Value of Migration Services: Advice for Optimal Deployment and the Mitigation of Risk

By: Jed ScaramellaProgram Director, Storage and Data Management Services

Abstract

This IDC Perspective examines the current trends and drivers for data migrations. The digital transformation journey is placing many customers in a perpetual state of flux, with a seemingly never-ending queue of migration projects. This document provides the reader an overview of migration services and introduces the criteria that a customer should be considering when evaluating professional service providers — whether they are a systems integrator or the services division of a systems vendor.

"'Data is the new lifeblood' has become a new mantra among business and IT executives, so there is significant emphasis on data security and protection. Even a small-scale migration can pose some element of risk and disruption to IT operations. A comprehensive service offering can advise on the optimal deployment model, execute a streamlined migration, and provide up-to-date skill sets," says Jed Scaramella, program director, Infrastructure Services.
