Abstract

This IDC study forecasts worldwide revenue for the enterprise social network applications market for the 2019–2023 period.

Collaboration is becoming the key to the digital workplace, not just the technology. It is, for many, a different way of working that leverages digital conversations, meetings, and assets across platforms. Often using AI and ML, this is happening in new and effective ways. For years, we have created powerful in-person communities to create and share knowledge, often with a goal or purpose in mind. Mobile internet devices extend our communities to disrupt business, especially if a business is not responsive to the needs of the community. Enterprise social networks, or enterprise communities, allows companies to create a safe space to collaborate with different audiences.

"If companies do not provide a well-staffed and moderated community that adds value to customers, prospects, and partners, in time, they will find each other and create their own community, regardless of whether they are B2B or B2C," according to Wayne Kurtzman, IDC research director, Social and Collaboration. "People have always created communities. The internet, and specifically mobile devices, makes it easier to grow larger, cover more geographies, and very often hide in plain sight from the very companies they are speaking about."
