CES 2019: Five Key Takeaways for Automotive OEMs

By: Jeffrey HojloProgram Director, Product Innovation Strategies, Matt ArcaroResearch Manager, Next Generation Automotive

Abstract

This IDC Perspective highlights five key takeaways for automotive manufacturers from our experiences at CES 2019 and ongoing discussions with automotive ecosystem providers. IDC recently sent a fleet of analysts to CES 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada, for immersion into the latest for consumer electronics, high tech, and automotive. Automotive continues to be a focal point of the show, with an acknowledgement by industry players that there is much work to be done on the technical, regulatory, and public perception fronts.

"Progress continues toward fully autonomous vehicles, slowly and steadily, as there are multiple layers of complexity for manufacturers to address: development of the technology within the vehicle to ensure safety, quality, and security; management and analysis of the data from connected and autonomous vehicles; and design of the new in-vehicle look, feel, and experience, as well as the ecosystem partnerships that must be in place to manage all of this — from tier 1 suppliers to academia to Smart Cities," said Jeff Hojlo, IDC program director of Product Innovation Strategies.
