What Influence Do Developers Exercise Over Investments in Development Platforms and Tools?

By: Arnal DayaratnaResearch Director, Software Development

On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines perceptions among IT professionals regarding the influence that developers exercise over buying decisions related to development platforms and tools. The Survey Spotlight shows that developers are perceived to have moderate to high degrees of influence over investments in development platforms and tools both now and 18 months from now. The larger point here is that developers should no longer be understood as passive users of development technologies. Instead, the Survey Spotlight indicates that developers are active contributors to conversations about investments in development platforms and tools. As such, technology suppliers and vendors would do well to establish relationships with developers to harness the influence developers exercise with respect to investment decisions and opportunities.
