On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Market Perspective is an update to the document delivered in September 2017. This IDC Market Presentation presents an updated overview of the Quantum Computing market and presents an approach that IDC is evaluating to assess and size it. The quest to build powerful computers that can analyze large and diverse data sets is quickly entering the next phase thanks to significant investments by technology vendors, venture capitalists, and cloud service providers.

"Quantum Computing continues to gain traction in the industry thanks to consistent efforts by vendors like IBM, Rigetti, Google, Microsoft, and Intel. At this rate, the epoch of quantum supremacy is not too far away," said Peter Rutten, research director, Infrastructure Systems Platforms and Technologies Group at IDC. "By the end of 2020, we could see powerful quantum computers that can not only take over existing use cases but also analyze problems that are impossible to analyze collectively by today's classical computers."
