This IDC study examines the market shares of the major vendors in the U.S. smartwatch market in 2018.
"Apple once again accounted for the majority of the U.S. smartwatch market for the third year in a row, but a closer look shows progress by newcomers and older vendors alike," said Ramon T. Llamas, research director with IDC's Wearables team. "Fitbit and Samsung made amazing progress during the year by pursuing specific market segments. Garmin and Fossil — while posing mixed results — also finished the year with segment-specific strategies. However, outside the top 5 vendors, results were mostly downward as vendors relied on older models or had limited reach. Still, the overall upward trend bodes well for the market as a whole, setting up new competitive dynamics in 2019 and beyond."
