Risk Sharing: The "Next Big Thing" in Technology Sourcing

By:

Aaron Polikaitis
Abstract

This IDC Perspective addresses the outdated savings strategies that are disconnected with business realities that are starting to backfire for many enterprises. Progressive innovation leaders are dusting off an old playbook and forming risk-sharing outcomes-based relationships with their vendors/partners. These risk-based partnerships build synergies and encourage innovation to solve complex business problems. This study examines the trend to drive innovation and savings by forming strategic partnerships with select vendors, describes several types of risk-sharing agreements, and provides actionable guidance on forging successful, profitable risk-sharing relationships.

"'Savings at all cost' is the new reality for many technology sourcing executives who don't look beyond outdated sourcing strategies," says Aaron Polikaitis, research vice president for IDC's IT Executive Programs. "Forming risk-sharing partnerships with select vendors capable of doing so can bring innovation as well as savings to the enterprise."
