By: David TapperProgram Vice President, Outsourcing and Managed Cloud Services

Abstract

This IDC study provides IDC's forecast and spending for the worldwide and U.S. IT outsourcing services market for the 2020–2024 forecast period. This study also updates the previous forecast published in Worldwide and U.S. IT Outsourcing Services Forecast, 2019–2023 (IDC #US43779019, April 2019).

"COVID-19, while truly an unfortunate situation that brings with it extreme societal hardships and sorrow for many people, may just be the final trigger that drives a fundamental shift in customers utilizing a traditional factory model for consuming operations of IT environments that have been focused on using labor and complemented by technology for decades to using the new factory called cloud computing that centers its delivery on the use of capital and automation in the form of a utility, similar to telephone and power," says David Tapper, VP, Outsourcing and Managed Cloud Services at IDC. "Supporting customers through these times of uncertainty and chaos will require that managed SPs deploy solutions focus on critical client capabilities that COVID-19 has impacted, helping prepare for potential successive waves of COVID-19, incorporating flexibility into contracts, building flexibility into global delivery model, investing in partnerships with platform providers, pursuing hybrid solutions with public cloud providers, supporting client need for multicloud management, preparing for a new normal, and seeking new markets."
