This IDC Market Note reviews the key member engagement takeaways from IDC Health Insights' analysts who attended the Payer/Health Plan Track of WHCC19, this year's iteration of the annual U.S. conference for the World Health Care Congress. Held in Washington, D.C., from April 28 to May 1, the conference drew more than 1,500 health IT professionals, clinicians, and executives and had 15 tracks of education and more than 200 exhibitors.
"Vendors, payers, hospitals, and academia have come a long way in member engagement from just populating billboards and TV commercials during open enrollment, having surprise bills as a rule, and forcing long waits for answers at payer call centers. Member engagement remains the Wild West, as this fragmented health system winnows the winners and losers toward sensible outcomes," states Jeff Rivkin, research director for Payer IT Strategies at IDC Health Insights.
