On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Survey details the results from IDC's 2019 Consumer Internet of Things Survey, which was fielded in May 2019. The survey asked respondents questions regarding consumer adoption of and attitudes toward a variety of smart home applications, consumer electronics devices, online entertainment services, security and privacy concerns, and smart assistants. This IDC Survey focuses on aspects of the survey related to home automation, monitoring, and control.

"Overall consumer interest in and adoption of smart home devices is gaining in momentum," said Adam Wright, senior research analyst for IDC Internet of Things: Consumer program. "The leading drivers of consumer interest in smart home solutions are convenience, reductions in energy consumption, and reductions in household costs. Although the smart home is still mostly a do-it-yourself market focusing on siloed solutions, 'whole home' approaches are starting to resonate and residential security companies remain a preferred installer."
