This IDC Survey studies the impact that adoption of containers and Kubernetes is having on DevOps and cloud system and service management priorities among large U.S.–based enterprises with annual revenue of $1+ billion. Respondents were required to have direct decision-making responsibilities or influence over their organization's container, DevOps, and cloud management strategies. The sample included 200 decision makers, primarily representing managerial and executive I&O roles.
Survey findings indicate these large organizations expect containers and Kubernetes will drive the next wave of infrastructure innovation. They are concerned about challenges related to configuration management and compliance as well as application performance at scale across multicloud and multicluster architectures. These organizations expect to make investments in new analytics, automation, and cost management solutions for cloud and container environments, with an emphasis on creating converged and shared KPIs, workflows, SREs, and centers of excellence. They also expect that third parties such as cloud service providers and managed service providers will be the primary source of many container and Kubernetes management capabilities.
