This IDC Perspective presents a state of the state on the use of mobile device management (MDM) in the retail industry, the use cases for MDM, and how retail enterprises' changing requirements for device and endpoint management are resulting in a market shift to UEM.
"Retail environments are changing to include a growing number of mobile devices — and more BYODs recently — more diverse operating systems, and other enterprise devices such as kiosks, barcode scanners, and IoT. The enrollment, provisioning, locating and tracking, and security of these devices have become much more demanding, as has the need to ensure a consistent user experience across the enterprise and supporting environments that are increasing heterogeneous," says Robert Eastman, research manager, IDC Retail Insights. "At the same time, the MDM, UEM, and EMM markets are evolving to address these changing requirements, and this is causing confusion among end users. This Perspective addresses these segments to help alleviate some of the confusion."
