This IDC Survey Spotlight discusses a new way to classify partners by where they are investing resources to differentiate and grow their businesses. This change from classifying partners based on their primary activity such as resale, consulting, integration, managed services, support services, and cloud services is necessary due to partners changing their business models in response to customer demand for solutions that deliver specific outcomes. To deliver outcome-based solutions, partners need to incorporate a wide breadth of activities obsoleting the traditional partner-type classifications.

This IDC Survey Spotlight is based on IDC's June 2019 Infrastructure Partner Transformation Study, which surveyed 502 North American channel partner organizations representing all traditional partner types: value-added resellers, systems integrators, global systems integrators, managed service providers, cloud service providers, and independent software providers, with a representative partner size mix matching the infrastructure ecosystem.
