Agile Development Drives Speed for Coding, Deployment, and Fixes to Support Business Innovation and Execution

By: Melinda-Carol BallouResearch Director, Agile ALM, Quality & Portfolio Strategies

On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight shows agile developer improvements in three key areas: the speed at which code is created, the pace at which developers deploy software, and the mean time to resolution (MTTR) to create code fixes. Given the vital importance of code for driving business transformation, innovation, and execution, rapid, higher-quality deployments enabled by agile approaches position organizations more effectively. Improving release frequency with faster time to repair indicates the benefits to feedback loops and collaboration enabled by agile, iterative strategies. Adaptive stakeholder/IT collaboration leveraging adaptive agile approaches can enable broader cultural change to improve execution, quality, relevance, and speed. As a result, we increasingly see business executives observing agile benefits on the development side and applying iterative, agile strategies for non-IT business initiatives and product development.
