On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Survey details results from IDC's 2019 Consumer Internet of Things Survey, which was fielded in May 2019. The survey asked respondents questions about consumer adoption of and attitudes toward a variety of smart home applications, consumer electronics devices, online entertainment services, security and privacy concerns, and smart assistants. This IDC Survey focuses on aspects of the survey related to the security and privacy of smart home devices.

"Security and privacy concerns are leading inhibitors to the adoption of smart home devices," said Adam Wright, senior research analyst for IDC Internet of Things: Consumer program. "Vendors across the technology stack need to ensure that adequate mechanisms are in place to protect the security and privacy of connected devices. Moreover, vendors need to better educate consumers about those protections while emphasizing the value proposition of the ways in which user-generated data can be leveraged to provide better products and services."
