This IDC Special Study provides clients with a demand-side view on IT infrastructure spending sentiments in 3Q19 as well as insights on technology buyer assessments of market trends that will shape the future of the IT infrastructure industry.
IDC's Enterprise Infrastructure Market Pulse provides detailed quarterly insights into spending sentiments regarding purchasing IT infrastructure (server, storage, and HCI) products and end-user priorities for short-term investments into IT infrastructure. The insights are gathered from a worldwide survey of 1,000 end users spread across various vertical industries and company sizes. Each quarterly survey also asks end users to provide insights into their plans of adoption of emerging technologies or IT delivery models. These survey themes change every quarter and look at longer-term trends that have significant impact on the IT infrastructure markets. In 3Q19, the survey theme was IT infrastructure (server and storage) for the emerging field of artificial intelligence workloads.
"Artificial intelligence is one of the emerging technological fields and, while it's still relatively new, we will soon see elements of AI everywhere in the consumer and enterprise worlds," says Natalya Yezhkova, research vice president, IT Infrastructure. "While AI elements of applications we are using might run almost unnoticeable from the IT resource consumption perspective, in the back end, training of AI models creates a range of requirements for high-performing compute and storage resources and acceleration technologies."
