User Enrollment in Apple iOS 13 Changes the Game for BYOD Management of Apple Devices in the Enterprise

By: Phil HochmuthProgram Vice President, Enterprise Mobility

Abstract

This IDC Market Perspective looks at the introduction of User Enrollment, a new capability introduced in Apple iOS 13.1 for separating personal and business data on employee-owned iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Also discussed are other iOS 13 enhancements around user authentication and ID federation as well as the impact these new features will have on enterprise mobility management (EMM) software platforms and the customers using these tools.

"Bring-your-own-device has been a phenomenon in enterprise since iPhone launched in 2007," says Phil Hochmuth, program vice president, Enterprise Mobility, IDC. "We are now seeing serious commitment from mobile OS developers — first Android and now Apple — to support segmented work-personal data and management profiles on individual-liable smartphones and tablets."
