If Business Function DX Is Critical for Successful Enterprise Transformation, Why Are So Many Companies Working Against Their Success?

Abstract

In IDC's 2019 Worldwide DX Executive Sentiment Survey, we asked 2,165 organizations about which business functions are critical to enterprise transformation and which are actually impeding their own transformation. Not surprisingly, digitally determined companies understand that true digital transformation (DX) requires an enterprisewide, coordinated, and committed multifunctional and multidiscipline approach for success. What was surprising is the depth and breadth at which digitally distraught companies are their own worst enemy when it comes to preventing transformation progress.

According to IDC's Shawn Fitzgerald, Worldwide Digital Transformation Strategies, research director, "Our research clearly shows that cross-functional transformation is necessary for successful enterprise transformation. Information technology, for example, is seen as both the most critical function for enterprise transformation and is overwhelmingly viewed as empowering and enabling, not impeding, enterprise business function transformation."
