This IDC Perspective provides insights into edge strategies for technology buyers. Enterprises are realizing that a cloud-first architecture has limitations. Edge computing represents the next evolution of distributed systems, complementing datacenter and cloud infrastructure by extending processing and storage closer to the point of data generation.
"For a CIO, an edge strategy is a critical component of an overall digital transformation initiative," said Dave McCarthy, research director, Edge Strategies at IDC. "As more equipment becomes connected and that equipment generates an increasing amount of the data, there is growing pressure on businesses to manage and extract value from it."
