Achieving Interoperability in a Multicloud Environment

By: Chris KanthanResearch Manager, Infrastructure Systems, Platforms and Technologies Group

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight illustrates the perception of enterprise customers regarding hybrid clouds and interoperability in multicloud environments. The document contains data from IDC's CloudPulse Survey conducted in 1Q19. IDC conducted this survey of 2,211 IT decision makers to understand various aspects of enterprise cloud adoption. The overall goal of the survey was to identify how enterprises are using cloud computing, what their challenges and expectations are, and what critical success factors drive successful outcomes in the cloud journey.

"As cloud adoption has accelerated, a vast majority of enterprises are embracing multicloud environments. However, many of them are unable to achieve meaningful interoperability between the clouds. The reasons boil down to cost as well as lack of expertise and tools. Enterprise customers are not too optimistic right now about being able to bring true hybrid cloud experience into fruition in the next two years. On the bright side, this creates a great opportunity for cloud providers and other IT vendors to innovate new solutions and capture this lucrative market," explained Chris Kanthan, IDC research manager in the Cloud Services Group.
