This IDC study forecasts digital Windows, macOS, Linux, and Chrome OS gaming through 2024. The digital PC games market includes Windows, macOS, Linux, and Chrome OS gamers aged 16+ who play at least monthly; associated spending on video game software and services that are derived from online channels; and associated ad revenue (i.e., display and video ads shown in or around browser game windows) that goes to game developers and publishers. Packaged PC game disc sales are excluded, as is related hardware system and accessory sales.
"The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on digital PC gaming in 2020, and it's likely to continue in 2021. One of the biggest near-term impacts is that PC gamers and revenue are taking a hit in Asia/Pacific but growing in other parts of the world, and this dynamic has important implications for the major supply chain vendors." — Lewis Ward, research director, IDC's Gaming and VR/AR services
