Abstract

This IDC Perspective discusses the changing role of OSS when responding to the threat of disruption from digital technologies. IDC survey data finds that organizations that anticipate major market disruption over the next five years are likely to make moves that differentiate substantially from the moves that organizations that anticipate minor or little-to-no disruption over the next five years will make.

"This IDC Perspective is a portal into the difference in anticipated behavior based on the perceived threat of disruption among different organizations," said Al Gillen, GVP, Software Development and Open Source, IDC. "Organizations that anticipate major disruption are more likely to diversify their methods of sourcing software innovation for their products and services than organizations not anticipating major disruption."
