Cloud Growth, Migration, and Repatriation Continue to Gain Momentum

By: Michelle Bailey, Chris Kanthan

On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation provides insights about the trends in migration of workloads in public and private clouds. The primary goal of the survey was to understand how much of the workloads are being repatriated from public clouds to private clouds. The secondary goal sought to understand the growth, migration, and retirement of applications in and between all cloud environments, private and public. The survey data comes from a web survey completed in January 2019 of 2,211 IT decision makers that included a broad representation of small (50–249 employees), midmarket (250–999 employees), and large enterprise (1,000+ employees) organizations in the survey sample. Respondents were required to be familiar with their organization's cloud computing infrastructure and applications, have familiarity with their organization's IT strategy and future technology investments and knowledge, and have influence or authority over IT investment decisions.

Cloud Pulse provides an overview of cloud adoption and cloud trends among IT buyers worldwide. Cloud Pulse looks at IT customers' current and future cloud investments and adoption rates, multicloud and hybrid cloud behaviors, and cloud workloads and cloud economics.
