Abstract

This IDC Market Perspective provides an overview of survey results from IDC's COVID-19 Impact on IT Spending Survey, which was in the field at the end of March 2020. The survey illustrates immediate impacts on IT buying decisions, including a likely reduction in spending in 2Q20 and with spending that will be done, an accelerated shift to cloud applications.

"Enterprise applications are expected to fare better than hardware due to existing contracts, the critical importance to core operations, and increasing demand for cloud software driven by remote work," says Juliana Beauvais, research manager, Enterprise Applications at IDC. "But survey responses at the beginning of this pandemic show that software applications are certainly not immune to fluctuates due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with buyers either running toward or scaling back on technology."
