Abstract
This IDC Perspective discusses IT security in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. For many, the COVID-19 pandemic effect on IT is essentially a test of digital readiness. CIOs are asking questions like, "what are the changes to my IT environment?," "how do these changes affect my risk?," and "how should I adapt my cybersecurity controls to address them?" With clear successes and failures being realized, the need for an updated, innovative cybersecurity architecture has never been more apparent.
"The line between balancing the risk of future attack with the downside of potential false positives that impede the productivity of legitimate users has never been finer," says Pete Lindstrom, vice president of Computer Security with IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "Now is not the time for productivity disruption in the name of enhanced security. That doesn't mean ignore it; it means 'be very, very careful.'"
