U.S. Consumer Communications Services Forecast, 2021–2025

By: Jason BlackwellResearch Director, Consumer Multiplay and SMB Services, Greg IrelandResearch Director, Consumer Digital Transformation and Multiscreen Video

Abstract

This IDC study identifies and quantifies the consumer communications services market opportunity in the United States, including an assessment of the drivers and inhibitors influencing the deployment, marketing, and pricing of fixed broadband, landline voice, pay TV, and mobile services by consumers. The study also presents forecast projections for the number of consumer subscriptions by service as well as the associated revenue for each service.

"Broadband has become the most important service for many households, keeping them connected to school, work, and family. As other services have declined in importance, broadband spending has increased as consumers have sought faster and more reliable connections. Cable and fiber-based services will bring faster connections and new services to consumers, while fixed wireless access will expand the service options to rural and underserved communities." — Jason Blackwell, research director, Consumer Communications Services at IDC
