Abstract

This IDC study sizes and forecasts mobile in-app and in-game advertising and the payout to developers/publishers from that spending, broken down by region and by ad format. Mobile advertising revenue is also broken out by major type, format, and mobile operating system at a global level. Direct mobile game spending and the share of in-game ad revenue that is paid out to mobile game developers/publishers is additionally broken out by four geographic regions: North America, Western Europe, Asia/Pacific, and a combined the rest of the world (ROW) region.

This forecast also sizes and forecasts spending on SSPs and DSPs supporting mobile display and video advertising: mobile display and video browser-based in-app advertising and mobile display and video in-app and in-game advertising.

"Mobile in-game and in-app advertising remains an important additional revenue stream on top of paid app sales and in-app spending, one that continues to grow at multiple times the speed of the overall economy, and it's showing few signs of slowing down despite the COVID-19 pandemic," said Karsten Weide, IDC's program VP of Media and Entertainment.
