Abstract

This IDC Survey provides insights on IT spending behavior during and in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. This survey was conducted in 14 countries representing North America, EMEA, and Asia/Pacific. It's intended to capture spending sentiment associated with 22 discrete categories of hardware, software, and services. This survey focuses on how respondents expect spending to change across 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT) in the full year 2020.

"The novel coronavirus/COVID-19 is set to impact 5G and IoT projects both near term and long term," says Patrick Filkins, senior research analyst, IoT and Mobile Networks, at IDC. "In some cases, ongoing IoT projects across select industries may actually accelerate, as organizations forge ahead and adjust plans due to COVID-19. 5G projects, on the other hand, are more likely to be delayed due to budget freeze and additional delay in 5G standards."
