How Much Do We Trust or Not Trust Data?: Key Findings from IDC’s 2022 Data Trust Survey
Abstract
This IDC Survey provides a summary of analysis performed on results from a survey fielded in November and December 2021 to 500 respondents that are the primary decision maker, part of the decision-making team, an influencer of decisions, or very familiar with their organization's investments, policies, and processes that ensure data used in business operations and analytics is trusted.
"Data is becoming highly distributed, diverse, and dynamic as a digital-first world emerges, and organizations are struggling to control the ability to trust data being used to make decisions and drive business outcomes," says Stewart Bond, director of Data Integration and Intelligence research at IDC. "The level of trust in data degrades as data moves further away from its origin, and those that are closest to the data trust it the least, resulting in business operational costs being most impacted by low levels of data quality and trust. Justifying the business case to improve data management is difficult but worth it; improved levels of data quality and trust are making positive impacts on key business metrics, including customer satisfaction, employee retention, and revenue."
