COVID-19: Global and U.S. Federal Spending — Where the Money Is Going

By: Shawn P. McCarthyResearch Director

Abstract

This IDC Market Perspective provides details on how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed IT and other government spending patterns. Worldwide, government IT spending is being affected by the long-term impact of COVID-19. While some types of spending are increasing, others are going down. The net impact will be some increased spending on hardware and a decline in government IT spending elsewhere.

"In the United States where $3.8 trillion in spending has been approved to help fight the health and economic impact of the virus, only a trickle of that money will be spend on new government IT systems," said Shawn P. McCarthy, research director for IDC Government Insights. "But the societal impact of other spending is huge." This document shows multiple breakouts to show where the special funding is going in the United States.
