Highlights from IBM Think 2020 on Social Media: An Analysis of the Ongoing Transition to Virtual Events in the COVID-19 Era

By: Jacob GroshekResearch Manager, Digital Experience Management (DXM)

Abstract

This IDC Market Perspective summarizes social media engagement for the recent IBM Think virtual event across several key factors, including volume, sentiment, and topics. These trends are contextualized with findings from social media for Think 2019.

"As events continue to transition through the COVID-19 crisis, the reach and impact of events on social media will likely diminish in terms of volume because attendees tend to second screen less often with virtual content compared with live tweeting in-person experiences," said Jacob Groshek, research manager of Digital Experience. "Nonetheless, positive client and partner relationships can be cultivated and highlighted on social media engagement during virtual (and hybrid) events that can substantially benefit hosts and organizers, not unlike Think 2020."
