This IDC TechBrief discusses the value and benefits of using an in-memory database (IMDB) that supports persistent memory (PMEM). It indicates the benefits, risks, current adoption, and critical success factors associated with this technology combination.
"Most IMDBs use flash for persistence. Persistent memory behaves like main memory and is persistent and much faster than flash," says Carl Olofson, research vice president for Data Management Software research at IDC. "PMEM encourages a database operational mode that is always-on. The method by which database applications are built must embrace that value, which should be adopted throughout the enterprise."
