Enterprise Data Retention Practices and the Challenges That Impede Organizations from Extracting More Value from Retained Data
This IDC Survey summarizes data retention policies and practices at enterprise organizations for several typical categories of data types and provides insight into how long organizations can retain data and how often retained data is accessed for analysis. Respondents also indicate whether retaining various data types longer would enable them to extract more value, and what other factors impede them from analyzing and extracting value from retained data. The results and insights provided in this document are derived from an IDC survey of 660 organizations in North America, Western Europe, and Asia/Pacific across midsize to very large organizations. The respondents represent subject matter experts for data retention policies and practices for their organization.
"Data retention policies intersect the enterprise DataSphere with the enterprise StorageSphere," stated John Rydning, research vice president, Global DataSphere. "Organizations are always striving to optimize data storage costs, yet nearly two-thirds of the organizations surveyed indicate they could analyze and extract more value from data if it were retained longer."
