This IDC study covers the four functional markets of DBMS software, both in the aggregate and individually, with five-year forecasts covering for 2019–2024, broken out by deployment type (public cloud versus noncloud) and geographic region. The four markets are distributed data grid managers, dynamic data management systems, nonrelational database management systems, and relational database management systems. The study includes forecast assumptions for each market, relevant market developments, and advice for technology suppliers.
"Enterprise data is becoming increasingly varied in form, including relational tables, documents, and graph data. At the same time, data volumes continue to grow exponentially," says Carl Olofson, research vice president, Data Management Software at IDC. "Enterprises will need more scalable, flexible, and reliable database systems to keep up with the volume of data, manage the data by type, and blend the data in meaningful combinations — driving demand for DBMSs that can deliver at those levels."
