Wave 6: The Latest Survey Data Set Shows a More Positive Direction Anticipated for United States 2020 Printer Spending

By: Keith KmetzProgram Vice President, Imaging, Printing & Document Solutions

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines the Wave 6 data collected from June 4 to 15, 2020, and compares it with the past five data sets, starting in March. This data clearly shows the reign of uncertainty in March, a progressively negative attitude prevailing in April and a hope of recovery beginning to emerge in May.

We observed a continuing sign of improvement in June, with positive responses now at levels first witnessed in March. In addition, the mix of negative and positive responses is close to an equal mix in this data set. At its worst, negative responses were almost 75% of this mix in late April.

We continue to examine the massive impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the global economy and IT spending. Its presence has literally shutdown worldwide operations in business, in education, and across all facets of society.

In this latest data set, IDC combines the responses from Waves 1-6 to provide a timeline over the past three months regarding the perceptions and expectations for U.S. printer spending trends.
