Wave 6: The Worldwide 2020 Printer Spending Trend Offers an Encouraging Sign in the Latest Survey Data Set

By: Keith KmetzProgram Vice President, Imaging, Printing & Document Solutions

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines the Wave 6 data collected from June 4 to 15, 2020, and compares it with the past five data sets, starting in March. This data clearly shows a timing difference between the worldwide and the U.S. data sets. The worldwide data set shows an earlier occurrence of negativity and recovery than the U.S. data set. In addition, the worldwide data offers little to no change in the mix of responses from late April and throughout all of May.

In June, the worldwide printer spending trend begins to show a more encouraging trend. Positive response gained a notable increase, while negative responses declined from the previous data set. However, the negative responses still hold 58% of this negative/positive response mix.

We continue to examine the massive impact that the COVID-19 crisis has had on the global economy and IT spending. Its presence has literally shutdown worldwide operations in business, in education, and across all facets of society.

In this latest data set, IDC combines the responses from Waves 1-6 to provide a timeline over the past three months regarding the perceptions and expectations for worldwide printer spending trends.
