Abstract

This IDC study considers the changing nature of development and the transitions of organizations, adding the roles of software development and software distribution to organizations' historical role of sourcing and consuming software. We provide a guide for organizations to understand the new digital innovation supply chain of plan, source, develop, and distribute.

"We are now on the future path of digital innovation, where every company becomes a software producer," said Mickey North Rizza, program VP, Enterprise Applications and Digital Commerce at IDC. "And we are entering a brave new world where developers become the center of initiatives that will define the winners and the losers of the next generation of digitally innovative businesses," said Al Gillen, group VP, Software Development and Open Source at IDC.
