Enterprise Perception of On-Premises Private Cloud Solutions from Public Cloud Providers
This IDC Survey Spotlight sheds light on how enterprise customers perceive private cloud solutions from public cloud providers. Examples include Amazon AWS Outposts, Microsoft Azure Stack, Google Anthos, and IBM Satellite. This document is based on data from IDC's 1Q20 Cloud Pulse Survey. IDC conducted this in-depth survey of 2,000 IT and finance decision makers, and a portion of this survey was focused on understanding the evolving dynamics in the private cloud market. The overall goal of the survey was to identify the cloud adoption curve, buyer behavior among enterprise cloud customers, technology trends related to the cloud computing market, workload patterns, the effects of COVID-19, and much more.
"Cloud computing is undergoing a rapid transformation that is creating a distributed and hybrid model where private clouds play a significant role. Private clouds offer enterprises distinct benefits such as improved security, compliance, control, and performance. However, building and managing private clouds are too complex and costly for many companies. Thus private cloud solutions from hyperscalers offer the best of both worlds — public cloud experience with private cloud advantages. However, these solutions need to adopt hybrid cloud-enabling interoperability to deliver strategic and competitive advantage," explained Chris Kanthan, research manager, IDC's Cloud BuyerView group.
