On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation examines worldwide digital transformation (DX) investment trends during COVID-19.

As Shawn Fitzgerald, research director, Worldwide Digital Transformation Strategies at IDC, states, "COVID-19 has affected all aspects of how humans engage every facet of their lives, the world, and one another in this ongoing global reality. So it comes as no surprise that people, societies, and businesses have resiliently adapted to new ways of living and working, enabled through the accelerated adoption of digital technologies and digital transformation investments and adaptations."

Craig Simpson, senior research manager, Customer Insights and Analysis at IDC, describes some of these investment adaptations in COVID-19: "Our own research shows not all technology and industry adaptations are occurring in a uniform fashion. For instance, the distribution/services and manufacturing/resources sectors are the hardest hit by COVID-19. In contrast, utilities, telecommunications, state/local government, and healthcare providers have proven to be the most resilient industries when it comes to DX technology investment during pandemic. From a technology perspective, big data and analytics, mobility, social, security, and IoT will continue to be the backbone of DX initiatives, and we expect to see ongoing long-term investments."
