This IDC Survey Spotlight reveals the fact that IT and security are the business divisions that most require new key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics. Of the KPIs for security, they represent the primary objectives that the security discipline should continuously strive to improve. But with the sophistication of threat actors rising and organizations' digital footprints diversifying and becoming more dispersed across cloud environments and employees' homes, making and measuring progress is a challenge of great degree. In addition, this challenge is not addressed alone. Security and IT teams are symbiotic. Security's objectives are overlays to the systems that IT teams oversee. For technology suppliers, the message is clear: Build into your products the means to measure KPI progress within security teams' scope of control and in partnership with IT.
